woops

So, around 1 am I had to rush quickly to catch the subway and then the last bus back to Kirchheim. Last bus was scheduled to leave the Messestadt West station at 1:45 am. so, diligently checking my watch, I made sure to get there about ten minutes early. I waited...no bus...waited some more...still no bus...and on and on. So around 2:15, with no cell phone, and no idea where the bus was, I decided that I had better start walking the 5 miles back to Kirchheim, not really knowing how to get there. Now before I lead you on any further, about half a mile into the walk, I was able to flag down a taxi driver going home for the night. He was a great guy and agreed to drive me. And so, on the ride home, the guy mentions something about daylight savings time...and much to my dismay, I realized that I had actually gotten to the bus stop an hour after the last one had come. But, as things always are, it was better for me to laugh it off and take note of another lesson...

Wash and Coffee

Made plans yesterday to go out with some of the guys from work to a small concert a place called "Wash and Coffee" Really didn't know what to expect...especially after hearing the name..but it turned out to be very literal! a very cool concept...basically a laundromat and cafe' mixed into one, so you can have a drink while you wait for your washing. A band from Mannheim played called Marie & the redCat.

Had an awesome time, it was great to get to know some of the guys some more, Stefan, Christian, Christoph, Sebastian, and their lady friends too haha

Afterwards we decided to go out some more and eventually made our way to a super cool soccer pub/club called Netzer & Overath, named after the German soccer legend, Gunther Netzer. Good music, good beer, and good people...good times.

Busy busy

Saturday morning 03/26/2011

After breakfast, I went straight into the city, to Schwabing, to look at some local student housing (WG). I'm hoping to get it, but will only find out on Monday morning. Afterwards, I went around, looking at the area, shops, cafe's, etc. Eventually I came to Leopoldstraße/Ludwigstraße, a historical boulevard with a lot of great architecture such as St. Ludwig, the University, and the Siegstor. I was running low on time, so I was able to see a few things, but will definitely have to go back soon, for the whole day most probably, to see everything.

Freitag

Friday 03/25/2011

This morning Luzia was nice enough to take me around Kirchheim, for some local sight seeing, showing me some of the local attractions, as well as some of the local schools. The architecture is pleasantly different from what I'm used to seeing in the US, and while typical and unexciting for the locals, was quite a treat for me.

After lunch, I took the U-bahn [subway] into the city to pick up my cell phone at the office, meet some of the other workers, and to view an apartment nearby. Following some quick sightseeing, I headed back to Kirchheim for the night.

Bussing Problems

Thursday 03/24/2011
After a long day of traveling, and visiting the office, I made my way to Kirchheim, just on the outskirts of Munich, where I will be staying for the weekend with a relative. A combination of Jet-lag and inexperience caused me to miss the bus stop...luckily I was able to get out before the bus left the town. Without a cell phone and with out any proper maps, I was pretty lost. After asking a few locals I realized that I was on the  wrong side of town....So...luggage in hand, I hiked about 2 miles west to the correct bus stop, where the house stood neatly nearby. Needless to say, it was a great learning experience as well as a wonderful lesson in the local geography!

Great Weekend

Haven't had internet access, so I'll post a few funny stories from the past weekend

Munich at Last

Arrived safely this morning after a long flight...definitely not the best...but glad to finally be here! Firm is awesome, very nice office, very nice people, everything so far is positive. I've already enjoyed some great food, a mozerella baguette and some Fallapfel for lunch. Warm weather is great, 15°c, plenty of sunshine!

Countdown [3 days]

3 days until I'll be flying out...still have a lot to organize before then. To say that I'm excited would be an understatement
